Do you practice religion?
As we teach, we learn. -Jewish Proverbs

Salutations, dearest reader!
It appears as if the community has been prompted to another deeply intrusive and personal prompt, again today.
Let’s jump right in and totally unravel this seriously unthought question!!
Judging solely based on the unlimited amounts of responses from the multiple sects of Catholicism, your author once again finds herself placed in the minority group.
Yet.
Your author finds herself in a reluctant pause in immediately answering the question. For she feels religion is more than just assigning a label and going to shul.

RELIGION: PRAYER VS CULTURE
Your author fully believes that there are two different pieces to a practiced religion.
Prayer and culture.
With the understanding that not everyone has been in attendance at a religious function recently- your author asks you to take a moment and gently recall the last time you attended a major religious function.
What enticed you to go?
Was it the idea of spending your time praying for your sins, or the always bountiful pot-luck after the praying?
Be honest. 😂🤣
(I am totally guilty for sneaking out of the services to gut punch shots of Manichewitz before the Torah reading from 7-17.)
No judgement here. 😂🤣

What your author feels is so often missed in discussions of religious practices is the cumulative cultural aspects dictated in our daily lives because of it.
You don’t have to be a chartered paying member of one of the big 5 in order to accept the fact that everyday, each one of us practices our own version of our individual religion via the culture of our lives.
What are your thoughts?

One response to “PRAYER VS CULTURE: A discussion piece.”
I think you’re right. We practice our “religion” every day. Even if that just means choosing right from wrong – more specifically, what right and wrong mean to us individually. Excellent response to another underwhelming prompt question, Ms Annie! ♥️
